FAQs

What are the taxes applicable for ocean freight?

Taxes are not levied on ocean freight. Only surcharges are applicable for ocean freight.

What is LCL and FCL?

Less than Container Load (LCL) is the shipment load that doesn’t fill the 20 ft or 40 ft container completely. The cargo would cover the partial area only. This means that a single container would be used by more than one consignee. Full Container Load (FCL) will cover the complete space available in a 20ft or 40 ft container.


 

What is Transshipment in shipping?

Transshipment is a common part of shipping. It is the process whereby goods are unloaded from one ship and loaded onto another to reach the destination port.


 

What is Terminal Handling Charge (THC)?

THC indicates the charges to be paid to the port authority for handling the cargo. This has to be paid at both loading and unloading ports.
 

What is CIF?

CIF or Cost Insurance and Freight means the seller has the responsibility of bearing the costs for shipping, freight charges, and insurance charges of the goods being shipped via sea.

What is FOB?

Free on Board means the Shipper loads the cargo without paying any charges at Origin. All charges are borne by the Consignee once the cargo reaches the destination.

What is meant by port-free days?

The cargo can be kept in the port premises, without paying any charges to the port authority, for a fixed number of days. This is termed as port-free days. The port charges would be applicable on the cargo post the subject period.
